In this project I aim to try and experiment with painting with light I have no experience with painting with light but I hope to have fun with this project and get some good photos after some practice. I also want to try and experiment with body suits if possible i have always been fascinated by light body suits and I love the videos and pictures people make with anthem I know I wont be able to get my hands on a light body suit but if ever get a chance its something I want to experiment with. I would also like to experiment with longer and shorter light painting photos as the length can drastically change how a photo will look and I would try to incorporate multiple light sauces standing or moving I could use another person for this but I'm not sure how the photo will turn out as I have never tried it and I have never seen anyone try it. I will try to link my work to different artists such as Eric staller and mike mandel . I'm not sure how I will link my work and research to edits as I haven't really found many edits of light painting.
context This photo was taken in 1949, by Pablo Picasso and it is a light drawing of a centaur the piece of work wasn't designed for anyone specific. The image was put on display in new York 1949. Pablo Picasso has a really long name: Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso. His work had no direct links to and political or social movements. This piece of work is not related to any other social or political history.
Content This photo show's Picasso light painting a centaur, its a portrait photo and doesn't represent anything I'm not sure if this work has a title I have looked and I cant find the name o the photo. parts of the photo are a bit abstract like the dark gloomy distorted lighting but the base of the photo is realistic. To me his work in general and especially this piece dose not communicate a message. Their is no meaning that I could discover that Picasso put into the photo but the meaning behind a Centaur is barbarism and unbridled chaos. The message of this work is to do with creativity and imagination this image also shows what hard work and skill can accomplish. I think that with this image The white line and the lighting has been exaggerated.
Composition the photo has very strong leading lines along Pablo, the support beams to the roof and the light drawing, as the photo has been edited lost the light just looks like solid beams of light causing your eyes to follow it around. The photo also has a deep depth of field so it looks like Pablo is standing away from the camera. The light drawing is the foreground, Picasso is the middle ground and the wall behind him is the back ground. To create a painting with light photo you have to be patient and cannot mess up with the angles of you can ruin the whole photo so yes Picasso would have been using a tripod for this shoot. I Personally believe his ISO was at about 400-600 to darken the photo and make it grainy, his white balance just with the shady as the room he was in would have been dark for the light painting to work. His aperture/f-stop would have been 1.4 to let the most light in through the lens.
Connection I like Pablo Picassos work because it Is very different to the standard way that others take photos. I only personally dislike a few parts of this photo i think that the resolution could be a bit higher and also thing that the ceiling is wasted space and it was not needed to have the photo so large. I cannot link my work to Pablo Picassos work as I don't consistently do painting with light. To create an image like this I will need a tripod and a long shutter speed on my camera and with that you an draw out the line pattern that that you want.
Artist Lapp-pro was made up of two men JanLeonardo Woellert and Joerg Miedza. they are considered to be the fathers of modern day Light Art in Photography. They started experimenting with long exposure light photos in 1996 Though it wasn't till 2003 till they shot any long exposure shots at night with light sticks. They had great success with heir light paintings and light performances

To make these photos I used the filter tool then the distort tool and the kaleidoscope and then I changed the number of mirrors and angles and that was it all this was done on photopia

This projects theme has been painting with light I haven't really explored any other theme's yet but this project is not done yet so I still have time explore ideas and themes in my work. At the start of the painting with light project I was very uninterested in it and didn't really want to do it but after the first actual shoot I was really into it and wanted to try more. I haven't done much research into any photographers because don't like to do that usually but I have done lots of research into Picasso. In the painting with light mini project I have used framing rules but mainly just leading lines and central focal point i tried to use others but it didn't work well like when I tried to use rule of thirds the picture looked out of place and weird and I didn't like it so I stopped trying to use most techniques. Most of the techniques and methods I used I didn't have to try out as I used them in the portrait project so I never really had a bad shoot or a bad edit as I had tried most of what I was doing before. Something I found extremely hard was drawing with with the actual light as if I wrote "hi" for the camera it would be "hi" so getting used to that was difficult and then also i would always need a tripod as the lens is open for long periods of time if I didn't use the camera on something the camera shake would completely ruin the photo.
When we started this project I didn't think I would be able to produce any thing very good but at this point through the project I do believe that the work I have produced is good and I am proud of it. I think that the themes we explored and the artists we looked at I fully explored and analyzed. If I had more time on this project I would explore making larger and more intricate light drawings and I would like to get better at writing with light. I don't hope my viewers will understand or realize anything when they look at my work most of my work has no feelings behind it and it is just the base raw photo I want people to look at even with edits I try not to add to much meaning behind my work. Skills I need to focus on is my ability to picture how a photo will look in my mind as I often cannot and I end up taking many pointless photos. the main skills I can bring over from painting with light over to architecture is my framing and the angles I take shots from. If I had more time I would ant to explore the theme of communication through paining with light.
